Clavaseptin is an antibiotic agent with a notably broad spectrum of activity against the commonly occurring bacterial pathogens in general practice and hospital. The novel action of clavulanate extends the spectrum of amoxicillin to embrace a wider range of organisms, including many resistant to other β -lactam antibiotics. Clavaseptin is bactericidal to a wide range of organisms in vitro including:
In dogs and cats, treatment of periodontal infections cause by: Pasteurella spp., Pasteurella multocida, E. coli, Moraxella spp, Enterobacteriaceae and Streptococcus spp. In dogs and cats, treatment of skin and soft tissue infections caused by: Pasteurella spp., Pasteurella multocida, Streptococcus spp, Staphylococcus intermedius and Staphylococcus spp. Clinically Clavaseptin has been shown to be effective in treating a wide range of diseases of cats and dogs including:- Skin disease (including deep and superficial pyodermas) Periodontal disease Urinary tract infection Respiratory disease (involving upper and lower respiratory tract) Enteritis Clavaseptin Palatable Tablets have a notably broad spectrum of bactericidal activity against bacteria commonly found in cats and dogs and are indicated for the oral treatment of bacterial infections caused by susceptible organisms.

Clavaseptin is a novel concept in antibiotic therapy. Resistance to many antibiotics is caused by bacterial enzymes which destroy the antibiotic before it can act on the pathogen. The clavulanate in Clavaseptin anticipates this defence mechanism by blocking the β-lactamase enzymes, thus rendering the organisms sensitive to amoxicillin’s rapid bactericidal effect at concentrations readily attainable in the body.
Do not use in cases of hypersensitivity to penicillin. Do not use in gerbils, guinea pigs, hamsters and rabbits. Caution is advised in the use of Clavaseptin® in any other very small herbivores
