Contains the active ingredient : Doxycycline which is an antibiotic medicine that's used to treat chest infections, sexually-transmitted infections like chlamydia and various rare infections, including Lyme disease. It's also prescribed for acne and rosacea and can be taken to prevent malaria.
What is it used for?
Doxycycline is used to treat various infections caused by bacteria and certain other micro-organisms. These include:
Chest infections such as pneumonia or flare-ups of chronic bronchitis.
Sinus infections (sinusitis).
Urinary tract infections and non-gonococcal urethritis.
Sexually-transmitted infections such as gonorrhoea, chlamydia, syphilis, chancroid, lymphogranuloma venereum and granuloma inguinale.
Pelvic inflammatory disease.
Infections caused by Rickettsiae micro-organisms transmitted by lice, fleas, ticks and mites (eg Q fever, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, tick fever).
Other rare infections, including parrot fever or psittacosis, brucellosis, tularaemia, Weil's Disease or leptospirosis, cholera and anthrax.
Doxcycline is also used to treat the following conditions:
Recurrent mouth ulcers.
Doxycycline can be taken to prevent the following conditions:
Infectious disease called Scrub typhus.
Infection with Leptospira bacteria (leptospirosis).
Traveller's diarrhoea (enterotoxigenic E coli).
